laying-foundations-for-urban-growth-issue-1A major residential and shopping development in one of Melbourne’s fastest-growing areas is coming together with the help of SITA- Resource Co.

The Avenue at Casey is nearing completion and the developer, Brown Property Group, is keen to use Resource Co’s recycled crushed concrete on future projects.

laying-foundations-for-urban-growth-issue-2SITA Resource Co supplied 20mm recycled crushed concrete, which was used as a sub-base layer in roads at the estate. It was also used for the base of the shopping centre and car park.

The Avenue at Casey is a master planned estate at Cranbourne North, about 40 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD. Residents will be within 5km of four shopping centres, eight primary schools, 10 secondary schools, three tertiary institutions, three freeways and two train stations.

The residential estate is located in the City of Casey, one of Melbourne’s growth corridors, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2013. The Avenue Village Shopping Centre opened in June.

Contract Manager Joel Johnson said the company has been using SITA-Resource Co crushed concrete for a year – after changing from another supplier – and was very happy with the product.

“We’ve got a new estate starting next year and we’ll continue to use their product,” he said.

SITA Resource Co Account Manager Barry Rowlings said about 20,000 tonnes of crushed concrete had been supplied. “We have been working with Brown Property Group now for just over a year. It was a large quantity to supply and the feedback has been very positive,” he said.

The product comes from the SITA Resource Co facility at Hampton Park, where industrial and commercial waste is recycled. Raw material from old footpaths and demolition jobs is brought in for crushing and finds new life in a range of products.
